Dubai to build Mohammed Bin Rashid City a massive development with theme parks, 100 hotels and the world's largest mall
Dubai is set to break its own record for the world's biggest shopping mall with plans for a new mega-development complete with a shopping centre that could welcome 80 million people a year.
The massive new development, unveiled by the Ruler of Dubai, will cost £1.7 billion and is set to boast up to 100 hotels, five distinct theme parks based on films, animals and characters from brands all over the world.
Mohammed Bin Rashid City, or MBR City, is a planned mixed-use development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In November 2012 the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the establishment of what he termed a new "city" within Dubai. The complex is to contain four components:
- Family tourism, including a park able to receive 35 million visitors yearly, the largest family leisure and entertainment complex in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Subcontinent. The park is to be established in collaboration with Universal Studios and include more than 100 new hotels
- Retail, including the Mall of the World, planned to be the largest shopping mall in the world
- Arts, including the largest area for art galleries in the Middle East and North Africa, "Cultural Crossing", which will connect the the existing areas of Downtown Dubai (location of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa) and Business Bay, to the rest of Mohammed bin Rashid City.
- Entrepreneurship and innovation
Dubai Shopping Festival
Dubai Shopping Festival 2013, the internationally acclaimed festival and one of the best shopping experiences in the world, will mark its 18th year with the upcoming edition. Between January 3 and February 3, the 32-day extravaganza will paint the city with a festive mood through its unique blend of shopping, winning and entertainment.
